Assessment Tools

A first and necessary step to any improvement comes from learning self-awareness. Personal development and organizational development cannot begin until each is made aware of an issue or problem.

Assessments are an important tool for evaluating strengths and limitations. The results provide insight into someone’s potential and identifies specific areas for improvement. Since the evaluation is not based on one person’s perception, an assessment can carry significant weight when properly discussed with the person being assessed.

Correctly employed assessments have a significant role to play in a person’s development. An assessment usually shortens the time required to discover a person’s development gaps; are an important tool for the organization to use in assigning people to the right position and team; and, are a way to help predict an individual’s success.

The assessments, which the coaching partner and the participant may use, will be selected on a basis of the specific situation and type of feedback required. The following assessments are the most common:

Guided Self Assessment© - This tool will help you assess your leadership style and how various attributes may be helping or hindering you. The assessment is done across six dimensions: Learning Style, Communication Style, Motivational Style, Decision-making Style, Building Personal Credibility and Reaction to Stress.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® - The most widely used and researched personality type instrument. MBTI® determines type preferences on four scales: Extraversion-Introversion, Sensing-Intuition, Thinking-Feeling and Judging-Perceiving. The various combinations of these preferences result in 16 personality types. *

Emotional Intelligence© - There is a case for "emotional intelligence" as being the strongest indicator of human success. Emotional Intelligence is defined in terms of self-awareness, altruism, personal motivation, empathy, and the ability to love and be loved by friends, partners, and family members. People who possess high emotional intelligence are the people who truly succeed in work as well as play, building flourishing careers and lasting, meaningful relationships.

Legacy Leadership Competency Inventory® - This inventory is an opportunity for leaders to benchmark their level of competency in practice contexts. It provides direction for learning, a guide for leader development and a model for developing leadership fully. **

Personal Coaching Styles Inventory® - The PCSI was developed to help you determine your dominant and backup coaching styles-knowledge that can improve communication in any relationship-personal or professional. ***

True Colors® - This tool is an easy way to begin to understand yourself and others. It uses colors to represent four distinct perspectives and personalities.

360 Degree Feedback - With this assessment you will discover the varying perception of others compared to your self-assessment, resulting in increasing awareness and insight to encourage you to make positive behavioural change.

DISC® - The DISC profile is an instrument that measures your behavioural strengths in four areas: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Compliance to enhance high performance for you and the organization.

Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI) - A measure of normal personality, evaluates the strengths and competencies that enhance an individual's career; these bright side tendencies are noticed quickly by others.

Hogan Development Survey (HDS) - A measure of Executive Derailers, evaluates problematic behaviour that can impede career success; these dark side behaviour appear after prolonged acquaintance, or during times of stress and heavy workloads.

Motives, Values, Preferences Inventory (MVPI) - A measure of personal standards, evaluates individual fit within a corporate culture; it indicates the kind of jobs, work, and environments people will find most satisfying.
